A non-profit Wikimedia Foundation published a free iphone application termed as Wikipedia Mobile that you can download from the iTunes App Store. iPhone and iPod touch users can now get easy and quick access to a wide range of information from historical events to the biography of US President Barack Obama. Users will find the application to be a lot easier in browsing the web on their iPhone to search for a detailed fact while saving one’s search history as stated by The Wikimedia Foundation. Several other developers also joined the bandwagon of creating Wiki-style encyclopaedia apps for the iPod touch and iPhone. The Wikimedia Foundation conceded that its official software did lack some features when compared to its current applications but was more focused on “speed and simplicity” with the first edition of the software.

The Foundation added that it would integrate more features based on user request and that it would embrace contributions from programmers and developers.

The iTunes App Store has sold over 1.5 billion applications ever since it launched this application last July with a lot of developers developing tens of thousands of programs that consumers can download to increase their user experience on the iPod Touch and iPhone.

A recent announcement of Wikipedia states that web users had made contributions of over 3 million English-language articles to the Wikipedia website, which anybody can make a contribution to.
